The problem with patents

I had an investment for several years in Specialty Electronics in Landrum, which had a patent on a electronic connector we were pretty excited about. Almost before Specialty could bring it to market, Chinese competitors were selling the parts. Specialty alleged that Motorola, one of its largest customers, had ripped off their intellectual property to drive down the cost. In deciding what to do, a veteran partner of mine said, "Son, Motorola will airlift an battalion of attorneys into the fight. Best you rack this one up to experience and live to fight another day." He was right, but remembering back on the experience still makes my blood pressure rise.

Here's another patent war story. Jeez, what a mess!
