Does anyone have experience with TRIZ?

Recently I was introduced to TRIZ (pronounced "trees"), which is an acronym for the Russian phrase for "Theory of Inventive Problem Solving." TRIZ was developed by Genrich Altshuller and his colleagues in the former USSR starting in 1946, and is now being developed and practiced throughout the world. I have become convinced that TRIZ is a very valuable tool for systematic innovation, but I'd like to know more.

Do you or anyone you know have any experience with TRIZ? If so, please leave a note below, and I would appreciate they opportunity to connect and compare notes.

John,

I know something about TRIZ. We teach it to our students at USC Upstate as a way to improve their problem solving skills. Some folks count that as extra brownee points if they see it on a resume. It is a highly respected problem solving approach by Universities, secondary schools and businesses throughout Russia (where it started 50 years ago), Europe (where it spread to next), and now in a growing number of businesses and Universities in this country. My experience with my students shows me that one can learn to be an effective out-of-box thinker/problem solver very quickly once the principles of TRIZ are mastered. As valuable as TRIZ are as a concept, it holds no candle to its successor technology: Directed Evolution. Directed Evolution is a proven way to identify major new investment opportunities (even new industries) and map out a specific resource allocation plan for their successful implementation. Potentially a real boon to anyone willing to catch the vision for a new paradigm in industry and wealth creation.
